"Ketch" to guest on 80s at 8:30 March 30

Jim "Ketch" Ketchman will be my guest on the 80s at 8:30 Wednesday night. He was a DJ at WMSE in '81 and '82, so I thought he would be perfect (well, sort of) for the third and final WMSE 30th anniversary installment of the 80s at 8:30. That's about as deep as I can get with this at the moment. He will bring his own vinyl and perhaps a CD or two.

WMSE's top 91.7 (actually 92) of 1981

As part 2 of my 30th anniversary WMSE document scans, I am posting a list of the 92 most played albums of 1981, our first year (March to Dec. anyway) on the air. Quite eclectic, as were the DJs. Some things never change.

Old MSE documents, part 1

As part of WMSE's 30th anniversary month, I dug up some old handbills, playlists and other documents from the early days. I will be posting a few here the next week or so and on my facebook. Enjoy.

WMSE 30th celebration part II

Wednesday night, March 16 on the 80s at 8:30 I will feature two segments from a music talk show I did in 1982 with Divina Infusino, former rock critic at the Milwaukee Journal. It was called "Talk Talk." One segment will include a discussion with Lee Arnold, who was then program director at 93 WQFM. Second segment is just Divina and I "rapping" about The Clash and X and whatever.

Shepherd Express interviews (Rich Mars)

Dave Luhrssen of the Shepherd Express called me a while ago and wanted to interview me and sort of tie it into WMSE's 30th anniversary. The result is in this week's print edition and on their website at http://www.expressmilwaukee.com/article-14112-kirchens-radio-rich-career.html
I really appreciate the article. The only issue I have is that I was identified by my 'day job' name. I did the interview as Rich Mars -- but that's rock 'n roll.
