Summer's here (no really)

I'm declaring it summer and the calendar says so too. I played my annual "Summer of the Drugs" -- a Victoria Williams song performed by Soul Asylum. I did not do any drugs, just a showgram. Featured 80s at 8:30 artist was the Pretenders' early years. I remember in the summer of 1980 hearing someone playing the first Pretenders album from an upstairs apartment along Brady Street. I thought to myself -- that's cool -- someone is playing a hip "underground" band loud in Milwaukee! Of course we were playing them on WSOE and later on WMSE 91.7. Here are this week's new tracks and then the '80s....

6 pm hour

Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs -- No Help Coming
Thurston Moore -- Circulation
Galactic (with Cyril Neville) -- You Don't Know (live)
Black Lips -- Raw Meat
Marianne Faithfull -- No Reason
Felice Brothers -- Cus's Catskill Gym
Dengue Fever -- Family Business

7 pm hour

Battles featuring Matias Aguayo -- Ice Cream
Let's Wrestle -- Bad Mammories
Panda Bear -- Last Night at the Jetty
Smithereens -- What Went Wrong
Man Man -- Spooky Jookie
TV on the Radio -- You

8 pm hour

Handsome Furs -- Damage
Sebedoh -- Dreams
Effed Up -- Queen of Hearts
Bass Drum of Death -- Nerve Jamming

The 80s at 8:30

Featured and only artist -- the Pretenders

The Phone Call
Up the Neck
Cuban Slide
The Adultress
Waste Not Want Not
The Wait
Precious (live August 1980 in Central Park)
